12 months
- Announce engagement
- Plan your budget
- Set the date and time
- Find a church
- Find a reception hall and send in your deposit
- Purchase guest list cards and draw up a guest
list (give some cards to your mother's and father's)
- Obtain wedding recommendations on professionals
(Photographers, Bands, Videographer, etc.)
- Start looking for wedding dress
- Plan your pre-numptial
11 months
- Set up interviews with professionals
(Photographer - ask to see samples, Band - ask for tape, , Singers - ask
for tape, Caterer - taste samples, Baker - taste samples)
10 months
- Hire professionals - make sure to send in
deposits
- Order wedding gown (this way you have plenty of
time if something should go wrong). It usually takes 6 months to come in
and one month to alter. This would leave you with 3 extra months.
- Select your bridesmaids, groomsmen, ring bearer,
flower girl, attendants
9 months
- Register for gifts
- Shop for your accessory items (veil, bridesmaid
dresses, lingerie, shoes, and other accessory items)
8 months
- Order your accessory items and bridesmaid
dresses. Bridesmaid dresses usually take 12 weeks to come in and one month
to alter. If you order them now, this would leave you stress free closer
to the wedding.
- Look at tuxedos
- Consult a travel agent about your honeymoon.
- Plan accomodation's for out-of-town guest and
reserve a block in a hotel.
- Meet with officiant to determine ceremony
content and start taking marriage classes if needed
7 months
- Finalize guest list.
- Order a ketubah for Jewish weddings.
- Order your wedding day transportation if needed
(limo).
- Have engagement photos taken.
6 months
- Select wedding favours.
- For jewish wedding, order yarmulkes.
- Decide on wedding rings.
5 months
- Make arrangements for tuxedo rentals
- Book your honeymoon
- Order wedding invitations, wedding programs, and
other stationery
4 months
- Send engagement photo to newspaper
announcements.
- Purchase wedding gifts (for attendants and
fiance).
- Finalize floral arrangements.
- Set hair, make-up, nail, and wax appointments.
3 months
- Finalize cake arrangements.
- Write out wedding invitations.
- Attend bridal shower given in your honor.
- Write your own vows.
- Make sure your dress and veil are in.
- Make sure your bridesmaid dresses are in.
2 months
- Purchase guest book
- Get name-change forms for social security,
driver's license, credit cards and bank.
- Send out invitations (double check for correct
postage)
1 month
- Hair trial preformed with veil.
- Attend your final dress fittings and have your
bridesmaids do the same.
- Make sure all your groomsmen, ushers, ringbearer,
and fathers have ordered their tuxedos.
- Send change-of-address form to post office.
- give bandleader list of requests.
3 weeks before
- Call guests who have not responded.
- Plan reception seating arrangements.
- Get your marriage license.
- Prepare wedding announcement for the newspaper.
2 weeks before
- Call caterer with final total of guests.
- Confirm directions and pickup and drop-off
points with transportation service.
- Confirm all other professionals.
1 week
- Pack your suitcase.
- Create a detailed schedule of your wedding day
activities.
- Pick up wedding rings.
- Host bridesmaid luncheon.
1 day
- Host groom's dinner.
- Get a manicure.
- Attend wedding rehearsal.
- Confirm honeymoon travel reservations.
- Pack wedding day emergency kit. (extra
pantyhose, safety pins, thread and needle, steamer, brush and make-up).
- Get a good night's sleep.
Your Wedding Day
- Eat a good breakfast.
- Have your make-up done.
- Have your hair done.
- Give yourself plenty of time to get ready.
